Negative Pressure Assisted wound closure, also called Wound VAC or Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, is used to assist with healing of open wounds. This therapy involves removal of fluid/drainage from the wound by placing a foam or gauze dressing over the wound, sealing it with a semi occlusive covering, and applying sub atmospheric pressure through an evacuation tube coupled to a computer modulated pump.
